remember. I am a grown adult. O.K. I'm 50 I hope this story touches you as it did me. I am in the medical profession, a radiographer. Mammography is on of my modalities. A patient of mine came into the room for her exam. She handed me a gift before I performed her examine. It was 4 werther's Originals wrapped in saran. As she handed me the candy she told me that her husband had passed away, she now lived with her daughter who's husband had commited suiside. She gave Werther's everywhere she went because that was what her husband did. What a story!! I thought it was great that my family always had Werther's in there pocket. I have a cat, about five years old that thinks he is a person. His name is Rusty. Anytime Rusty thinks that I am about to enjoy a Werthers candy, he hears the sound of the paper and comes to me and then he sits with eyes all big and bright, tries to get the candy out of my mouth and is not content until I get the candy down to the size he can handle. He will not leave my side until I share my Werthers with him. You would have to see it; it is unbelievable. Are you sure you do not have cat nip in your candy? Dear Sirs, Recently I purchased some Werther's toffee's. I have enjoyed these sweets for years! These sweets are wrapped in a white wax type paper, with gold foil. They have bows which you pull to open the sweet. There is a fault in the packaging. When unwrapping the sweet, and removing the paper, a strip of gold foil is left stuck to the toffee. About 4 out of 5 of the wrappers are faulty, they leave a metallic taste in the mouth. I was driving down the motorway and put a toffee into my mouth. The foil got caught in my teeth. It made me feel sick. I stopped at the first station on the motorway to wash out my mouth. I messed up my shirt whilst heaving, and had a tooth ache for a few hours after. These toffee's have been ruined by poor packaging. I still have some which have not been opened. I am sure, I am not the first to complain. I will forward these onto you, if you want to examine them. We recently purchased Werther’s Caramels after seeing an ad on TV. The caramels are great with one serious problem: the wrapping machine buries the end of the wrapper into the candy. Hello,
I hope you do mind that I am writing to ask you about the wrapping on
your Werther's Original Chewy Candy. The candies are truly wonderful but
I cannot figure out how to take the wrapper off without leaving a
residue of the inner foil wrapping on they candy. The first piece I ever
ate had a metallic taste. The next time I opened one, I looked before
eating and noticed a thin line of foil where the candy just slightly
over-lapped the wrapper. I picked it out before eating, but that was a
little messy. I thought maybe I just had a bad bag where the machinery was not working properly. It has been several months since I purchased that first bag and decided to try one more time. I am finding the same little line of foil sticking to the candies in this bag as I did in the previous bag. To be honest, I feel rather stupid that I cannot unwrap a little piece of candy and even more stupid that I am actually writing this message. To whom it may concern, I have purchased a 34 oz. bag of Werther's original candies within the last 2 months and have probably eaten 20-30 of the wrapped candies. Today I put one in my mouth and tasted a strong (almost hot) flavor. Took it from my mouth and saw that it had a black dots on it. At closer observation, it looks like it was infested with ants, but not sure. As I opened another wrapped candy, I found the same. This bag has been opened for about a month and since opening has been kept in a sealed freezer bag in a high-shelved cupboard. I have not opened every candy but have found another with, it seems, the same investation. I surmise that it may have been infested in manufacture,packaging, or shipping. I was sure that you would want this information. I am keerping this bag which I originally bought from the Costco Company located in So. I was actually looking for information on Fruity Polos (which are, by the way, a far superior brand of confectionery) for a web site that my mates and I are planning to set up, when a search engine churned up the "House of Werthers". I decided to check it out, and I've got to say it is a damn good laugh. Nice one. I would like information on the purity test, as a mate of mine is a right Werthers muncher, and I'm sure he'd get a bloody high score. Respect to the Polo Fruits, ------------------------------------------- Yes, Werthers are quite nice, but they're not as good as polos. And they leave a funny aftertaste. I also found that advert with the old gentleman and the little whippersnapper subversive with homoerotic undertones, which I did not care for in the slightest. Polo do not have to use such advertising, so why do Werthers? I'll tell you why: they're not as good as polos and they never will be. Get it? So don't go spreading your Werthers propaganda crap on the web, I'm on to you: you want to destroy polos and put a new pocket-sized packet of sweets on its throne. You can't suceed, you realise, polo is too strong. Werthers remain intact, thus providing fingerprints and other forensic evidence. 5)Werthers are granny sweets, while fruity polos are the sweets of youth culture. 6)Werthers packaging is blander than Westlife. 7) Squashy fruity polos are nice, but squashy Werthers would be bloody horrible. 8) Also, you get a nice plastic tray with squashy fruity polos. This is useless but good. 9) A recent survey of dentists discovered that 864 people broke teeth on Werthers last year alone. Fruity polos are not as hard, and were not stated as a danger to teeth. 10)If you throw a Werthers at your mate (because lets face it, you wouldn't want to eat one), you could damage property. 46 windows in UK universities were broken in this way last year. 11)Werthers are the same colour as earwax. 12)Some poor bastard working for Nestle spends his whole life writing POLO on the fruity polos. If we don't buy them he may have to go and become a Tory politician or something. And finally.....Werthers don't have a hole in them, therefore making them inferior to the mighty polo. I enjoy werthers and eat them all the time. I generally unwrap one
and pop it into my mouth with out as much as a glance. The other day,
however, I for some reason looked at it before putting in my mouth and not only noticed a "black mark" but noticed as well a "black hair" (my hair is
blond) stuck to the candy. This candy came straight out of the wrapper and
I do not have any idea how it got there. It was stuck quite well because I
tried to remove it and couldn't. I ended up throwing it out. While this is
just one candy, I started wondering how many others I shouldn't have
eaten. I was not very happy and felt I had to write you to let you know of
my experience. I do not do this often but I really was turned off and
thought that you should know about this for your quality control
department.

| Pet Peeve about Werther's Caramels |
I Like Werther's caramels. I like them too much.
But, because the wrapper is made all of foil, and parts of the foil stick
to the caramels, I have a very hard time eating them. The foil and the
fillings in my teeth make for weird faces as I attempt to extricate myself
from that metallic flavor. Please shorten the foil part, or use a douple
wrapper. |

TO THE QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BAG OF CARAMELS I HAVE FOUND TO HAVE A DEFECT THAT I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN. IN EACH CARAMEL I HAVE FOUND A SMALL PIECE OF ALUM. FOIL. I HAVE A HABIT OF LETTING THE PIECE MELT IN MY MOUTH, AND WHEN IT GETS VERY SMALL I HAVE FOUND THIS FOREIGN MATERIAL. IF YOU EAT ONLY A PIECE OR TWO THERE WOULD PROBLY BE NO HARM DONE, BUT IF YOUR LIKE ME I CAN'T STOP EATING THEM, AND I BELEIVE THERE MIGHT BE SOME DANGER OF THIS MATERIAL ACCUMULATING IN THE BOWELS OF A PERSON. | Classic caramels | I'm writing to tell
you I love the new (to me) chewy caramels. My only complaint is that
the foil covering doesn't always peel off completely so that I have bitten
into teeny bits of foil! I have had to use a small knife to cut away
the bits of foil that didn't peel away. Any way this can be
addressed and corrected? My husband and I have enjoyed the original Werthers for years. Thanks. Lillian Cheatham |

coffee candy that I kicked the cigarette habit after 55 yrs of
smoking. Now it has been discontinued as a Brachs item and I and
thousands of others are screaming for our coffee candy. It must be

My Yorkshire Terrier, Sam, loves to have a Werthers when he finished his dinner. In fact, before I introduced him to the sweetie he was a poor eater !! Now, knowing he will get his treat if he eats his food, I have no problems. The only thing is that I have to bite it myself into small pieces and it ain't doing my molars any good !! The reason I am writing is that I want to know why the sweets go soft once the "tube of sweets" or packet is unwrapped, even though the sweets themselves are still in their gold wrappers. The outside goes sort of gooey and the crunch is lost. This is a bit galling for me, because I don't eat them myself and a packet lasts quite a long time and if it has lost its crunch then it is really too sticky for Sam, because he really needs to crunch it up and not have it stick to his teeth (which I may add, I clean every day !!) My daughter has bought him one of the large clear egglike containers of Werthers for Xmas I hope they will last OK I would be interested to know why they go "off". !! I have just found the website and will read on. More power to your elbow !! Happy crunching |

| WERTHER'S NEW CHEWY | Help! We purchased the wonderful Werther's Original in the new chewy version - oh boy - are they a mouthful and hard to chew! My 90 year old friend was so disappointed as she had seen them advertised on TV and wanted to try them now. I popped one into my mouth and found it very difficult to chew - too hard and too big of a piece. For my friend, I cut the candy into 3 pieces hoping she could manage better, but that didn't work. She was so disappointed. Did you try your new product out before you merchandise it? |
